About our gutter survey in Blashford

Your gutters take the rain from the roof and lead it away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t, often down the brickwork or into the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, including gutters, valleys, outlets, hoppers and downpipes. The findings go into a written report with photos. If you’re worried about hoppers and outlets full of debris and overflowing eaves gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, on outlets and hoppers, parapet and box gutters and fascias and soffits alike.

Some older homes in villages like Blashford are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What we do, step by step

We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes between one and two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. For a village or hamlet like Blashford, the journey is planned ahead of time: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. First, you tell us what you’ve seen, like overflows or damp.
  2. Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
  3. Any valley, parapet or box gutters are looked at as far as safe access allows.
  4. The roof space is checked for water marks if it is safe to get into.
  5. The findings are written up with photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Tips that help

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
  • Book gutter clearing once a year, more often near trees
  • Keep climbers away from the eaves
  • Look out for overflows when it pours

How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It is sent to you by email once it’s done.

Have your gutters cleared at least once a year, and more often if trees overhang the roof. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clear gutters can carry water away as they should.

Can I check my roof myself?

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

Blashford questions

Will you come out to Blashford?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you cover Blashford?

Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Blashford is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.

Do you survey at weekends?

Yes, weekend visits are possible as well as weekdays. Just call 07833 053749 or send us an email to arrange it.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

What does a gutter survey cost?

Our packages start from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email for a price.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Blashford homes and their roofs

Avon Tyrrell House, about 4.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Blashford. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it’s frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.

Anyone responsible for a site like Poulner Junior School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Honest limits

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • The inside of buried drains
  • Gutters out of sight from every safe viewpoint
  • Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers

Common roof problems in Blashford

Many people get in touch after seeing water pour over a gutter in heavy rain. Others notice a damp wall, a stained ceiling or a green streak down the brickwork. A survey helps show where the water is coming from before it causes more harm.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Overflowing eaves gutters
  • Soffits marked by water
  • Joints that drip after rain
  • Cracked or loose downpipes

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary and All Saints, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
