Your questions about gutter surveys in Burroughs Grove
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Marlow station?
Yes, that’s a common request. We just need to know who will give access, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Is Burroughs Grove within the area you cover?
Yes, Burroughs Grove is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How do I arrange a gutter survey in Burroughs Grove?
Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
What’s in the survey report?
A report with photographs, explaining the condition of the gutter, any defects and our recommendations, in order of urgency where relevant. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Burroughs Grove
This survey covers rainwater above ground, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It’s not a CCTV drain survey, so we cannot see inside underground pipes. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, we will say so in the report, with a suggestion to book a separate drain survey. Anything we find above ground, like a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. We survey valley gutters, downpipes and fascias and soffits, and people most often book us about soffits marked by water and dripping or leaking gutter joints.
Somewhere as small as Burroughs Grove, homes are frequently older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it is usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a gutter survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
- Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We email it to you as soon as it is ready.
Have your gutters cleared at least once a year, and more often if trees overhang the roof. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clean gutters can do their job.
How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. For a village or hamlet like Burroughs Grove, the journey is planned beforehand: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First, you tell us what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Any valley, parapet or box gutters are looked at as far as safe access allows.
- We look in the roof space, where there is safe access, for signs of water getting in.
- You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
Getting a price

When to book a survey in Burroughs Grove
Many gutter joints depend on rubber seals or sealant that age. Plastic gutters move with heat and cold so their joints can start to leak. Cast iron joints can corrode and part where the paint has failed.
People typically book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Leaks at the gutter joints
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
Landlords with a home close to Marlow station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- What insurance they carry
- Their report turnaround times
Can I check my roof myself?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.
How the survey changes by roof type
Cast iron gutters
Cracks frequently open on the back of cast iron downpipes, so we check the wall behind for staining.
Box and secret gutters
Box and secret gutters often cause leaks indoors. We check the outlets, linings and overflows where safe.

Burroughs Grove homes and their roofs
The wider area around Burroughs Grove has a long history of building, with Harleyford Manor about 3.3 miles south-west. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it is frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Burford School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. Take an older house close to St Mary the Virgin: the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.

- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
- The inside of buried drains
