Questions from Chineham
Is Chineham within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Is my home in Chineham listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when booking.
How much is a gutter survey?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The size of the property and the access affect the price. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Before the wetter months gives you time to plan any work, and a wet spell can show where gutters overflow.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Will you check if gutters are causing damp inside?
Overflowing gutters frequently lead to damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the evidence points elsewhere, we’ll say so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Chineham
People book a gutter survey when gutters overflow, when damp appears or before the wetter months. Landlords and managing agents use the report to plan upkeep, and some buyers want the rainwater system checked before exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way, with photos and written recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. If you’ve noticed joints that drip after rain and cracked or loose downpipes, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Chineham drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls, and moss holds water against tiles. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from the ground.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the gutter, any defects and our written recommendations.

How we price gutter surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
Helping us price your survey
We’ll typically ask about:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.
Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Watch ceilings under valley gutters for fresh marks
- Check for spilling water in a downpour
- Check from ground level or a window, not a ladder
- Watch for green marks down the brickwork
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. We email it to you once it is done.
Have your gutters cleared at least once a year or more often near trees. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clear gutters can carry water away as they should.
What we cannot see
A survey is a proper look at the gutter, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- The inside of buried drains
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Parapet and box gutters
- Fascias and soffits
- Eaves gutters
- Downpipes
- Valley gutters
- Outlets and hoppers
How the survey changes by roof type
Box and secret gutters
Box and secret gutters often cause leaks indoors. Outlets, linings and overflows are checked as far as access allows.
Fascias and soffits
Overflowing water stains soffits and rots timber. We check them along with the gutters.
How the survey works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Chineham, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
Getting a price
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Advice
Why it’s worth a survey now in Chineham
A gutter clear-out takes the leaves away, but it does not tell you why a gutter overflows. We also check the falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes to show whether something else is wrong. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Chineham, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Chineham
The wider area around Chineham has a long history of building, with The Vyne about 2 miles north-west. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Malls, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks. If you live in an older home near Christ Church Chineham, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Trees in and around Eastrop Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.
