Gutter survey in Clifton Hampden: what you get
We carry out gutter surveys in Clifton Hampden as part of our cover across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows and from the loft space. Time on site normally takes between one and two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. If you’ve noticed gutters overflowing in heavy rain and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Some older homes in villages like Clifton Hampden are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Gutter surveys in Clifton Hampden: local notes
West Oxfordshire’s older buildings frequently carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. With Clifton Hampden Manor about 0.1 miles east, Clifton Hampden sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Living close to Nuneham Courtenay is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. The streets around a church such as Church of St Michael and All Angels are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Landlords with a home close to Culham station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

Clifton Hampden: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Clifton Hampden is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Clifton Hampden?
Yes, Clifton Hampden is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How quickly is the report sent?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Are hidden gutters like valleys and box gutters included?
Yes, where it is safe to see them. We use the ground, windows, the loft space and the roof where it is safe and a drone where applicable.
What’s in the report?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Different roofs, different checks
Box and secret gutters
A box gutter is built into the roof, often behind a parapet, so overflows can end up inside. We inspect them as far as it’s safe to see them.
Aluminium and other metal gutters
On big buildings, one blocked outlet can affect a long run, so we check the outlets carefully.
Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
What happens on the day
We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Around Clifton Hampden, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- A written report with photos and recommendations follows.
Before we arrive
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Note where any stains or damp appear

Advice
Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Look for downpipes coming loose
- Watch the gutters during heavy rain
- Check from ground level or a window, not a ladder
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It’s sent to you by email once it’s done.
Get small faults like a dripping joint or loose downpipe sorted quickly. They tend to get worse, and the water they spill can damage walls and timber.
