Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Crown Wood
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Buildings near trees collect more and moss from the roof slopes makes it worse. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether any overflows are doing their job. The photographs show you exactly what we found. Blocked gutters are easy to put off but it rarely improves. If you’ve noticed sagging gutters and loose brackets and joints that drip after rain, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Crown Wood drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls, and moss holds water against tiles. It’s the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Practical tips
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
- Look out for overflows when it pours
Questions about the report are welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation and the Premium Survey comes with an in-person one.
Deal with drips, sags and loose downpipes early. They tend to get worse and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.
Crown Wood homes and their roofs
In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so check with the council.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Paul, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Anyone responsible for a site like Crown Wood Primary School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you own a rental within reach of Martins Heron station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.

How we price gutter surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Roof area
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
What we need to know
What helps most when you contact us:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- What made you get in touch
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email, tell us about the property and we will recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.
The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. A visit to Crown Wood is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
Getting a price
Once you know what you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day, weekday or weekend.
Related advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Plastic can become brittle with age and crack. We check joints, brackets and the line of each run.
Cast iron gutters
Lots of period homes still have cast iron rainwater goods. Kept painted, they can last a long time but corrode once the paint wears off.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
Questions from Crown Wood
Is my home in Crown Wood listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Martins Heron station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you need.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Is a CCTV drain survey included?
No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground down to where the downpipes reach the ground. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we’ll tell you.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
