Aluminium and other metal gutters

Metal gutters can suffer at joints and where different metals meet. Any leaks or corrosion we spot go in the report.

Fascias and soffits

On buildings from before 2000, soffits may be asbestos cement. Any we think could be are flagged so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check them before they’re disturbed.

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Felpham

People book a gutter survey when gutters overflow, when damp appears or before the wetter months. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. The survey and report follow the same steps whatever the reason, with photographs and written recommendations. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. We survey eaves gutters, fascias and soffits and downpipes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are soffits marked by water and overflowing eaves gutters.

In a smaller place like Felpham, homes range from older cottages to bungalows and newer houses. Coverings range from slate and clay tiles on older homes to concrete tiles on many later ones. Chimneys, valleys and gutters on older homes often need the most attention, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. The fixings under an older roof often fail before good slates or tiles do.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Local roofs in Felpham

Felpham is within about 1 mile of the coast, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

Trees in and around The Brooks Local Nature Reserve shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. Take a building like Felpham Community College: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

Felpham is about 1 mile east of Bognor Regis, in West Sussex. Felpham gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Across West Sussex, we cover Felpham. Portsmouth is in our area too.

Here we cover the PO22 and PO21 postcode area for gutter surveys. If you need a gutter survey at a property on Sea Road, Ley Road and Limmer Lane or anywhere close by, we can survey it. Neighbouring places we cover for gutter surveys include South Bersted (1 mile west), Flansham (1 mile north-east), Bognor Regis (1 mile west), Middleton-on-Sea (2 miles east) and Shripney (2 miles north-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Worthing (11 miles east), Chichester (6 miles north-west), Selsey (7 miles south-west), Littlehampton (6 miles east), Lancing (15 miles east) and Emsworth (13 miles west).

Local landmarks in Felpham

A little further out are Bognor Regis Museum (1.2 miles south-west) and Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital (1 mile west).

Do you need a gutter survey in Felpham?

Leaves are behind most blocked gutters. Every autumn, trees fill gutters with leaves, twigs and seeds, and they collect at the outlets. Once an outlet is choked, the gutter fills and overflows.

Here are some of the things we see frequently:

  • Downpipes that are split or coming away
  • Overflowing eaves gutters
  • Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
  • Leaks at the gutter joints

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

What to check before booking

  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

What a good roof survey covers

Honest limits

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
  • Gutters out of sight from each safe vantage point
  • Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Valley gutters
  • Downpipes
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Eaves gutters

What affects the price in Felpham

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Height and safe access
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

What to let us know when you get in touch

Before you get in touch, it’s useful to have:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Felpham: your questions answered

Will you come out to Felpham?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can a landlord with a rental near Bognor Regis station book a roof survey?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you need, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.

When does the report arrive?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, like an exchange date, let us know when you book.

Is a Saturday or Sunday visit possible?

Yes, we carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays. To book, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Do you check valley and parapet gutters?

Yes. Hidden gutters are a common cause of leaks inside so we pay close attention to them. Some may only be partly visible, and the report says so.

Why act early in Felpham

Small gutter faults rarely fix themselves. Every downpour adds to the damage, on walls, timber and sometimes inside. A survey now tells you what needs doing and how urgent it is. Blocked gutters on homes around Felpham overflow and soak walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

How it works

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a written report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, it normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Felpham is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

  1. We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
  2. We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
  3. We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
  4. Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
  5. You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

How to prepare

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Keep pets in another room
