Gutter survey in Hattingley, Hampshire
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Hattingley. We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How big the roof is
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The shape of the roof and its details
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.
What we need to know
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you’re ready.
About our gutter survey in Hattingley
Eaves gutters at the front of a building are easy to spot but lots of gutters are tucked away. Valley, parapet, box and secret gutters can send water indoors when they overflow. We check them as far as they can safely be seen, from the ground, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe. Many leaks indoors start at a hidden gutter. If you’ve noticed dripping or leaking gutter joints and blocked outlets and hoppers, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
When to book a survey in Hattingley
Some gutters may be too small, or have too few downpipes, for the roof they serve. An extension or extra roof slope can add water to an existing gutter and the weakness shows in a heavy downpour.
Problems we come across frequently include:
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Gutters full of debris and silt
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- What follow-up you get after the report

Why it is worth a survey now in Hattingley
When a valley or parapet gutter blocks, the water has nowhere safe to go. It can overflow into the building typically during the worst downpours. Having them checked before autumn and winter makes sense. In a small place like Hattingley, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Hattingley questions
Do you carry out roof surveys in Hattingley?
Yes, Hattingley is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Hattingley as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
How do I find out if my home in Hattingley is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
Will you look at parapet and box gutters as well?
Yes. These gutters frequently cause leaks indoors when they block, so they’re an important part of the survey. Parts of them may not be visible, and the report says so.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photos. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
What happens after the survey?
You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more frequently near trees
- Do not leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
You receive a report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can pass it to whoever you choose to do the work so they know what needs doing.
Look at the gutters from indoors or the ground when it pours. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before damage builds up.
Gutter surveys in Hattingley: local notes
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. Bentworth Hall, about 1.9 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hattingley. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Medstead Church of England Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
Hattingley is about 5 miles west of Alton, in Hampshire. Whether the building in Hattingley is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, large and small. Our Southampton page covers surveys nearby.

What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a small place like Hattingley, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- We ask about overflows, damp or leaks you’ve noticed.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- We check hidden gutters, such as valleys and parapets, where it is safe to see them.
- Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
- You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Before the survey
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
