About our gutter survey in Hawkhurst

Leaves, moss and silt are the usual reasons gutters block. Homes close to trees fill their gutters faster, and moss washing off a tiled or slate roof adds to it. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full, which outlets and hoppers are choked and whether any overflows are doing their job. Photos show each problem clearly. It is an easy job to put off, but they rarely get better. If you are worried about dripping or leaking gutter joints and rotten fascias or stained soffits, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Around Hawkhurst, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from the ground.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

Local roofs in Hawkhurst

Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. About 5 miles south-east lies Great Dixter, a reminder of how long the area around Hawkhurst has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you let a flat or house near Etchingham station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Trees in and around Collingwood Nature Reserve shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters. If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
  • Blockages deep inside downpipes
  • The inside of buried drains

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Eaves gutters
  • Valley gutters
  • Downpipes
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Parapet and box gutters

Can I check my roof myself?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What affects the price in Hawkhurst

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Which survey package you book

All our prices include VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.

Getting in touch

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it is useful to mention:

  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Anything about access we should know
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £150, including VAT. For a price for your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Being in a smaller place like Hawkhurst doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. We start by hearing about any drips, overflows or damp patches.
  2. Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
  3. Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can safely be seen.
  4. Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
  5. We send a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Plastic (uPVC) gutters

Joints that have pulled apart are a common fault on plastic gutters. We record each one we can see.

Fascias and soffits

Most gutters are fixed to the fascia, so rot in the boards can loosen the whole run. We note soft, stained or damaged boards we can see.
