How a gutter survey works in Laverstoke

Gutters carry rain off the roof and away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t, often down the brickwork or into the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, including gutters, valleys, outlets, hoppers and downpipes. You get a photo-illustrated written report. If you’ve noticed leaks at the gutter joints and gutters packed with leaves or moss, we can find out what’s behind it, on downpipes, valley gutters and fascias and soffits alike.

Older buildings in small places like Laverstoke may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is frequently expected.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

How the survey works

Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit normally takes between one and two hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like Laverstoke can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, you let us know what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
  2. We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level and from windows.
  3. Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
  4. The loft space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
  5. The findings are written up with photographs and recommendations.

Common questions in Laverstoke

Is Laverstoke within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

I let a flat near Whitchurch (Hampshire) station. Can you check the roof?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

What does a gutter survey cost?

The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us for a price.

How long does a gutter survey take?

Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Is a Saturday or Sunday visit possible?

Yes, we carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays. To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Will you check the loft?

Normally, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.

What a gutter survey looks like in Laverstoke

A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it is frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

If you let a flat or house near Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Testbourne Community School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

What we look for on each type of roof

Box and secret gutters

Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. Outlets, linings and overflows are checked as far as access allows.

Aluminium and other metal gutters

Metal gutters are common on commercial buildings and some homes. Their joints and outlets still need checking.

How we price gutter surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

What to let us know when you get in touch

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:

  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • When you need the report by
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access

We confirm the price for the job before booking, so you know the cost up front. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Signs you need a gutter survey in Laverstoke

Leaves are behind most blocked gutters. Nearby trees drop leaves, twigs and seeds into gutters every autumn and the debris builds up at the outlets. A choked outlet soon means a full, overflowing gutter.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Choked outlets or hopper heads
  • Soffits marked by water
  • Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
  • Downpipes that are split or coming away

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St Nicholas' Church, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

Before you book anyone

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • When you will get the report

What a good roof survey covers

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

What this survey can’t tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Hidden sections we cannot view safely
  • Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
  • What’s behind fascias and inside walls

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.
