Micklefield Gutter Survey
Find out the condition of the gutter at your property in Micklefield. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Overflowing eaves gutters
- Choked outlets or hopper heads
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photographs. As for time on site, most surveys take an hour or two for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a smaller place like Micklefield, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- First, you let us know what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from the ground and vantage points.
- Any valley, parapet or box gutters are looked at as far as safe access allows.
- We look in the roof space, where there is safe access, for signs of water getting in.
- You get a report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Leave side gates unlocked
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Advice
Gutter survey in Micklefield
Gutters have to slope gently towards the outlet or water sits in them. Sagging brackets and slipped joints leave water standing and overflowing where the gutter dips. We check the line of each run as far as we can see it and look at the brackets and downpipe clips. You get written recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you’ve noticed water backing up from a hidden gutter and dripping or leaking gutter joints, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Trees around homes in smaller places like Micklefield drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
What we are asked to look at in Micklefield
Many gutter joints depend on rubber seals or sealant that age. Plastic gutters move with heat and cold so their joints can start to leak. On cast iron, joints can rust and open up where the paint has failed.
Look out for signs like these:
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Water backing up from a hidden gutter
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
Take a building like Kings Wood School and Nursery: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Micklefield homes and their roofs
Historic houses such as Hughenden Manor, about 2.3 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Micklefield goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whatever the covering, it’s frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
For businesses in and around places such as Eden, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks. Landlords with a home close to High Wycombe station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.

Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Have overhanging branches cut back
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it
Report times depend on the package you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It is sent to you by email as soon as it’s ready.
Get trees and climbers near the eaves trimmed back using someone with the right kit. Less debris means fewer blocked outlets.

Micklefield questions
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near High Wycombe station?
Yes, landlords and agents book with us as well as owners. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the building.
Is my home in Micklefield listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you check the drains below ground?
No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground, from the gutters to the bottom of the downpipes. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we’ll tell you.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Do you work in Micklefield?
Yes. We cover Micklefield and the rest of Buckinghamshire, as part of our work across London and South East England. To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
