Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Newbury's
Leaves, moss and silt are the usual reasons gutters block. Homes close to trees fill their gutters faster, and moss washing off a tiled or slate roof adds to it. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full and where outlets or hoppers are choked and whether overflows are working. The photographs show you exactly what we found. Blocked gutters are easy to put off but it rarely improves. If you’ve noticed overflowing valley or parapet gutters and brackets that have dropped or snapped, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Newbury's are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Newbury's: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Newbury's is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Do you cover smaller places like Newbury's?
Yes, Newbury's is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do I need to be at home?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How do I arrange a gutter survey in Newbury's?
Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Do you look in the loft space?
Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
How long will you be on site?
For a house, expect about 1–2 hours on site, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
Signs you need a gutter survey in Newbury's
Some gutters may be too small, or have too few downpipes, for the roof they serve. An extension or extra roof slope can add water to an existing gutter, and a heavy downpour shows up the problem.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Joints that drip after rain
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Leaves and moss blocking gutters
Take an older house close to Rehoboth Chapel: its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

Practical tips
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Don’t leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
Report times depend on the package you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It’s sent to you by email as soon as it’s ready.
Get trees and climbers near the eaves trimmed back using someone with the right kit. Fewer leaves in the gutters means fewer blockages.
Gutter surveys in Newbury's: local notes
About 1.5 miles south-west lies Wadhurst Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Newbury's has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Older houses across Sussex often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
If you own a rental within reach of Wadhurst station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. If you look after a building such as Uplands Community College, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
Newbury's is about 5 miles south-east of Royal Tunbridge Wells, in East Sussex. Newbury's gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Newbury's is one of the places in East Sussex we cover. You can also see our page for Maidstone.

Local landmarks in Newbury's
Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to The Old Vine Public House, among other places. The nearest railway station is Wadhurst station, roughly 1.9 miles west. Well-known places in the area include Ticehurst House Hospital (2.9 miles south-east) and Finchcocks Musical Museum (3.5 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Bewl Water.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Clearing gutters removes the debris, but it doesn’t tell you why a gutter overflows. We also check the falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes to show whether something else is wrong. For an older or listed building in a place like Newbury's, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older roofs in small places like Newbury's can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- We ask about overflows, damp or leaks you’ve noticed.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and vantage points.
- Any valley, parapet or box gutters are looked at as far as safe access allows.
- The roof space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
- You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Advice
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
