Gutter surveys for Upper Horsebridge homes and businesses

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Upper Horsebridge

This survey covers rainwater above ground: gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows. It is not a CCTV drain survey, so we cannot see inside underground pipes. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, we’ll say so in the report, with a suggestion to book a separate drain survey. Anything we find above ground, such as a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. Typical surveys look at gutters that have fallen out of line and overflowing eaves gutters, on eaves gutters, parapet and box gutters and outlets and hoppers.

Houses in smaller places like Upper Horsebridge can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. Checking those edges shows whether anything has begun to work loose. Once one ridge tile or slate moves, wind gets under the next one too.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Questions from Upper Horsebridge

Will you come out to Upper Horsebridge?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

How do I find out if my home in Upper Horsebridge is listed?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

How fast do I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in; we’ll agree the details as you book.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What we look for on each type of roof

Cast iron gutters

Cast iron tends to fail at the joints and fixings. We note corrosion, cracks and leaking joints where they can be seen.

Plastic (uPVC) gutters

Many homes have plastic gutters and downpipes. As the seals age, joints can start to drip and brackets may drop under the weight of debris.

Can I check my roof myself?

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Tips from our surveys

You do not need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:

  • Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
  • Get the gutters cleaned out every year
  • Note any damp stains below the gutters
  • Leave gutter checks at height to someone equipped for it

The report comes with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can pass it to whoever you choose to do the work so they can see exactly what’s needed.

Have your gutters cleared at least once a year, and more frequently if trees overhang the roof. The best time is usually after the leaves have dropped. Clear gutters can carry water away as they should.

What we can’t see

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • Pipes below ground level
  • Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods
  • Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Eaves gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Downpipes
  • Valley gutters

What happens on the day

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey usually takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. A visit to Upper Horsebridge is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
  2. We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
  3. Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
  4. Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
  5. You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Keep pets in another room

Booking a survey

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or email us, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Advice

Gutter surveys in Upper Horsebridge: local notes

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs, and the county’s older buildings include oast houses and Wealden hall houses. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. Historic houses such as Horselunges Manor, about 0.6 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Upper Horsebridge goes. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

For landlords with property near Polegate station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. If you look after a building such as Hawkes Farm Academy, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
