Gutter survey in Thursley: what you get
Some gutters are easy to see from the street but plenty of gutters are tucked away. Valley, parapet, box and secret gutters can overflow inside the building when they block. We inspect them as far as it’s safe to see them using vantage points, the loft space and the roof itself where safe. Many leaks indoors start at a hidden gutter. We survey eaves gutters, fascias and soffits and downpipes, and people most often book us about overflowing eaves gutters and gutters packed with leaves or moss.
In a village or hamlet like Thursley, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Why act early in Thursley
Going up a ladder to check your own gutters carries real risk. From the ground you can spot drips and overflows but hidden gutters are another matter. We inspect as far as it’s safe to see and put it in writing. In a place like Thursley, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
Why us?
- Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help
- An independent look at the roof
- Weekday and weekend surveys
- Covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely. The survey usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Rural addresses near Thursley can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.

Different roofs, different checks
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
A London butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter, and a blockage there can overflow inside. We check it where it is safe to see.
Box and secret gutters
A secret gutter is tucked under the slates or tiles at an abutment or valley and is easy to overlook. The report records what could and couldn’t be seen.
What a survey costs
We confirm the price for your survey before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Roof area
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.
Getting in touch
When you call or email, these details help:
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- What made you get in touch
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
Our phone lines are open seven days a week. For a price or to book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Local roofs in Thursley
If your home is older, it is worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
Take an older house close to Church of St Michael and All Angels: its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. If you let a flat or house near Witley station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

Tips from our surveys
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Don’t leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Check from ground level or a window, not a ladder
- Check for spilling water in a downpour
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It is sent to you by email once it is done.
Hidden gutters need clearing too. They collect leaves and silt just like eaves gutters but they’re much harder to spot, so check they’re included in any clearing work.
FAQs for Thursley
I let a flat near Witley station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and agents book with us as well as owners. Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the building.
Is my home in Thursley listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Can you tell me if my old gutters contain asbestos?
No, that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor. On buildings from before 2000, we flag materials that could contain it so you can arrange that check.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Do you work in Thursley?
