New roof snagging in Wisley
Our snagging inspections cover Wisley and the rest of London and the South East. Time on site usually takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. We inspect as far as it is safe to see including by drone where it applies. You then get a photo-illustrated written report. We inspect on weekdays and at weekends. Common reasons to book are vents that weren’t fitted or are covered and underlay ending short at the eaves, on loft conversions and dormers, replacement roofs and ridges and verges.
Some older homes in villages like Wisley are listed or sit in a conservation area. If so, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so check with the council before work starts. For a buyer or someone with a newly finished roof, it’s worth knowing which applies, as well as what condition the roof is in. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Which survey package you book
- House, block, shop or office
- The shape of the roof and its details
- How big the roof is
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
Helping us price your survey
The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
Checking the roof from ground level
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Wisley
Phone photos from the garden can’t show much. Our inspection looks as closely as can be done safely using a drone where it applies. Outbuildings and barns around Wisley are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Flashings
Loose or badly dressed flashings are a common snag. They’re recorded with photos.
Valleys
We check valley linings for splits and poor laps where they can be seen.
How it works
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it usually takes an hour or two for a typical new house roof, longer where the roof is large or complicated. For a village or hamlet like Wisley, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we note any deadlines and concerns.
- We inspect as far as safe access allows.
- Each detail at ridges, verges, valleys and flashings is looked at.
- We check the gutters, lower roofs and walls for debris or damage.
- You receive a report to share with your roofer.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Watch for drips in the roof space with care
- Let your roofer know an inspection is planned
- Keep warranty papers safe
- Walk round the house to look for knock-on damage
Keep the report with any warranty papers from your roofer. It is a dated record of the roof at handover.
Keep paperwork for the new roof together. Add the snagging report to it.

What else we do in Wisley
Wisley: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Wisley is listed?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Wisley?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Wisley is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Do you look in the roof space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
What’s the price of a snagging inspection?
The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email for a price.
Can you see the fixings under the tiles?
No. We inspect what can be seen without opening up the roof so hidden fixings are not visible to us. The report says what could and couldn’t be seen.
How do I arrange new roof snagging in Wisley?
Simply call 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Buying a home or a new roof in Wisley
Byfleet Manor, about 0.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wisley. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Older houses across Surrey frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Whether you are buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the materials helps make sense of what the inspection finds.
Take an older house close to Wisley Church: older patch repairs can hide behind a tidy front slope, and the survey looks past them. If you let a flat or house near West Byfleet station, a roof report gives you a clear picture before you buy or settle up with a roofer.
