Alkham Roof Survey
Independent roof surveys in Alkham. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Worn lead at chimneys and abutments
How we price roof surveys
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- House, block, shop or office
- Height and safe access
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The roof’s overall size
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
Helping us price your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- The address and postcode of the property
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Alkham
A roof survey tells you what condition your roof is in, before small faults become big ones. Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it is safe to get in. You get a written report with photos and recommendations. Where it helps, we say which items are urgent and which can wait. We survey chimney stacks, lead flashings and the roof space, and common reasons people get in touch are leaning or weathered chimney stacks and condensation or damp timbers in the loft.
In a small place like Alkham, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Tips from our surveys
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Mention any damp patches when you book
- Have details of recent roof work to hand
- Take photos of any leaks as they happen
- Check the roof from ground level after storms
Where it helps, we say which items are urgent. Some faults need dealing with soon, while others can wait for planned work. That helps you decide what to do first.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. Watch for stains, damp timbers and daylight through the roof. Photograph anything new.
What else we do in Alkham
DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Questions from Alkham
Will you come out to Alkham?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is the coastal weather around Alkham hard on roofs?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Ridges, verges, flashings and fixings are where it normally shows, and Alkham is within about 3 miles of the coast.
What do you check on a roof survey?
Every part of the roof we can safely see: coverings, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and the loft. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
How long does a roof survey take?
It typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Report times depend on the package.
How much does a roof survey cost in Alkham?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
Honest limits
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
- A full building survey of the property
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Lead flashings
- Natural slate
- The roof space
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs
The survey, step by step
Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, sent to you by email. As for time on site, it usually takes about one to two hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Alkham frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You tell us about the property and any concerns.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
Booking a survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email when you are ready.

Roof surveys in Alkham: local notes
Alkham is within about 3 miles of the coast, so there is more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Metal fixings and flashings corrode faster in salt air, while gales work at loose ridges, slates and tiles, while driving rain finds any gap. Historic houses such as Acrise Place, about 3.9 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Alkham goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Anthony the Martyr, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. If you own a rental within reach of Kearsney station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Trees in and around Sladden Wood shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters.
