Roof survey in Furzedown, Greater London
A careful look at the roof at your property in Furzedown, and put it all in a written report with photos.

How a roof survey works in Furzedown
Roof coverings last a long time, but not for ever. Natural slate can last 100 years or more, and clay and concrete tiles commonly 50 years or more, yet nails, battens and underlay often fail first. A survey shows which parts of your roof are wearing. Knowing that helps you plan work before it becomes urgent. We survey lead flashings, the roof space and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are leaking gutter joints and downpipes and slates or tiles that have slipped or broken.
A London butterfly roof slopes down to a central valley gutter that drains to the back of the house. Hidden behind the parapet, that gutter can block or split without anyone seeing it. For a house in Furzedown with this kind of roof, the hidden gutter is one of the first things to check.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What a roof survey looks like in Furzedown
Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that can’t be seen from the pavement. In a house like that, shared stacks, party-wall upstands and lead flashings all need looking at as far as they can be seen. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 2 miles of Furzedown. If your survey includes the drone, we check the exact boundary for the address before flying.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Graveney School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. The streets around a church such as St Paul's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. If you own a rental within reach of Tooting station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Before you put a home on the market, it is useful to know the roof’s condition. You can deal with defects before a buyer’s surveyor finds them, or at least know what to expect. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

How it works
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen. The survey typically takes about one to two hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In Furzedown, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- The roof is inspected from ground level, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Tell us about parking before the day

Furzedown questions
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Furzedown?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Furzedown is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Furzedown?
Parking in Furzedown, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly.
When will the report arrive?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Premium the same day. We send it by email.
What does a roof survey include?
Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, plus the roof space where there’s safe access. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.
How do I book a survey in Furzedown?
Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain does not typically stop a survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

What a survey costs
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Roof area
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Building height and the viewpoints available
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
What to let us know when you contact us
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:
- The property’s address and postcode
- What made you get in touch
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
We confirm the price for your survey before you book, so you know the cost up front. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. For a price for your roof, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Can I check my roof myself?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Roof by roof
Lead flashings and valleys
Flashings close the joints where a roof meets a wall or chimney. We check for lead that has lifted, split or slipped.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Older homes in the Weald and across the South East often have clay plain tiles. Rotten pegs and battens let tiles move, leaving gaps along the courses.
