Roof survey in Heath End, Surrey
Need a roof survey in Heath End? We can help, with findings in writing and pictures to back them up. Weekday and weekend visits available.
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Roof survey in Heath End
We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where conditions allow. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where applicable, for roofs that are hard to see well. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Everything we see is photographed for the report. Typical surveys look at slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles and worn or blocked valleys, across natural slate, the roof space and chimney stacks.
In a village or hamlet like Heath End, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. On older roofs, it’s usually the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Building height and the viewpoints available
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Getting in touch
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Anything about access we should know
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, let us know about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.
How the survey works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Around Heath End, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.
- We check the roof from each safe vantage point, inside and out.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
Local roofs in Heath End
In Surrey, older roofs are frequently handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. Farnborough Airport is about 3 miles from Heath End. If your survey includes the drone, the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions first.
If you own a rental within reach of Aldershot station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. Homes near green spaces such as Weybourne LNR can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Heath End
If you are planning to sell, a roof survey can help you prepare. You can deal with defects before a buyer’s surveyor finds them. For older village homes like those around Heath End, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT.
Why book us in Heath End
- Surveys on weekdays and at weekends
- Covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Plain-English reports with photos
- Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
Do you need a roof survey in Heath End?
Not every roof problem comes from outside. A badly ventilated loft collects condensation, and the damp gets into timbers and insulation. It can look like a leak.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Torn or sagging underlay
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Gaps in the roof where coverings have gone
If you live in an older home near St Mark the Evangelist Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Is VAT included in the price?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
Questions from Heath End
Do you cover smaller places like Heath End?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Aldershot station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
What does a roof survey cost?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.
How long does a roof survey take?
The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. We will confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. We flag materials that could contain it, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
Do you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft, and Premium includes a drone where applicable.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
We do not give a number of years. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, with recommendations ranked by urgency.
