Roof Survey in Tufnell Park
A roof condition survey for homes and buildings in Tufnell Park. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Lifted, split or missing lead flashings
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
What we look for on each type of roof
Chimney stacks
We check the stack itself, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If a specialist is needed, we will say so.
Natural slate
Slate is common on older homes in London and the South East. Widespread slipping usually points to corroded nails, and we say how widespread it looks.
Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tufnell Park
Everything we check, we check safely: from ground level, from windows, from the roof space and from the roof where conditions allow. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where it applies, which helps with tall or steep roofs. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. Common reasons to book are blocked, sagging or leaking gutters and ridge tiles that have lifted or moved, across the roof space, ridges, hips and valleys and lead flashings.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces are found right across London, many with Welsh slate roofs, shared chimney stacks and parapet or valley gutters. Slates can last a century or more, but the nails holding them corrode, and slates slip. In Tufnell Park, as across London, that is why a roof needs a proper look rather than a glance from the street. Shared chimney stacks and the lead around them are just as important to check.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Roof surveys in Tufnell Park: local notes
If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that cannot be seen from the pavement. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
If you look after a building such as Eleanor Palmer Primary School, a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time. If you run a business near O2 Centre, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks. With Witanhurst about 1.2 miles north-west, the area around Tufnell Park has a long history. On a period home nearby, the survey separates sound original work from tired later repairs.

FAQs for Tufnell Park
Is my home in Tufnell Park listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
I let a flat near Upper Holloway station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the building.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Do you carry out asbestos surveys?
No. Asbestos testing isn’t part of our service. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
How long does a roof survey take?
The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. We will give you an idea of timing when you book.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
We don’t give a number of years. The report explains the condition of each part and the signs of wear, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
Checking the roof from ground level
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
How it works
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it’s useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- You let us know the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We look at the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- We email a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Advice
What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- The size of the roof
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Helping us price your survey
These details help when you get in touch:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- When you need the report by
- What kind of property and roof it is
- The address and postcode of the property
To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We will confirm the price before booking.
Honest limits
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- A full building survey of the property
- A structural engineer’s report
- An exact number of years the roof has left
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
