Upper Lambourn questions
How do I find out if my home in Upper Lambourn is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you cover smaller places like Upper Lambourn?
Yes, Upper Lambourn is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
How many surveys have you done?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
Do you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft, and Premium includes a drone where it applies.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when you book.
How a roof survey works in Upper Lambourn
There’s no single reason to have a roof surveyed. Some have spotted a stain or a slipped slate, while others just want to know where they stand. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: a careful look, then a clear written report. Visits run on any day of the week, so it’s easy to find a day that suits. We’re frequently asked to look into cracked mortar along the ridge and loose chimney pots, across the roof space, lead flashings and clay and concrete tiles.
Somewhere as small as Upper Lambourn, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for instance when you want to check whether anything has changed.

How the survey works
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes an hour or two for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. In a hamlet or village like Upper Lambourn, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

DIY checks: what’s safe
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What a roof survey does not cover
No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- An exact number of years the roof has left
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

How we price roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The shape of the roof and its details
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
Booking your survey
These details help when you get in touch:

- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and give us some details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.

How the survey changes by roof type
Natural slate
Inside the loft space, we check what’s under the slates. Older roofs may have bitumen felt underlay, and very old roofs none, and we note its condition.
Lead flashings and valleys
Many older houses have lead in their valleys and hidden gutters. Worn or split lead lets water straight in.
