Storm Damage Roof Report in Canada

- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
Storm damage roof report in Canada
A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. It’s a report with photos, sent by email. It is not a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. If you’ve noticed holes or cracks caused by debris and broken or displaced guttering, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flashings, flat roofs and chimney stacks alike.
For a small place like Canada, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Leaks and storm damage in Canada
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. The wider area around Canada has a long history of building, with Landford Manor about 2 miles north-west. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
For landlords with property near Romsey station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.
Canada is about 5 miles north-west of Totton, in Hampshire. Roofs in Canada get the same thorough look as anywhere else in Hampshire. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. We also survey roofs in Southampton.

What a survey costs
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- The roof’s overall size
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Prices start from £150, with VAT included, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
What to tell us when you get in touch
Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:
- The property’s address and postcode
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Canada
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a hamlet or village like Canada, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We look at the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
How to prepare
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
How to book
Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Advice
Questions from Canada
Is Canada in the area you cover?
Yes, Canada is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and the South East. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Canada?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
It varies by policy. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but your policy sets the actual test.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
Will my insurer pay for an old roof?
Most policies do not cover wear and tear. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so it is clear what we found. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.
Can I check the roof after a storm?
Safely, from the ground or a window. Do not use a ladder or go onto the roof. With binoculars, you can see a lot from the ground and we’ll inspect the rest from safe positions.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Common roof problems in Canada
Landlords and building managers often need a written record after a storm. The report can be shared with owners, tenants or insurers.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
- Holes or cracks caused by debris
- Water coming in after the storm
Take a building like Wellow School: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
What to check before booking
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- When you will get the report
How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roof coverings
Branches and debris can damage flat roofs or block outlets. We record what we find.
Ridge and hip tiles
Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.
