What you can safely check yourself

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

How a storm damage roof report works in Hampden Park

Wear and tear is usually excluded from home insurance. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. Our report records both: recent damage alongside any older defects, like nail fatigue on slates or eroded pointing. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. How the policy applies is for your insurer to decide. We are often asked to look into holes or cracks caused by debris and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on flat roofs, gutters and fascias and flashings.

Around Hampden Park, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, through worn flaunching, failed pointing or lifted flashings. Damp in a chimney breast can have more than one cause, so it is not always obvious where it starts. It’s worth looking at the stack from outside and at the timbers beside it in the loft.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What affects the price in Hampden Park

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • The size of the roof
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window

We confirm the price for your roof before you book, so you know the cost up front. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. For a price for your roof, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Storm damage roof reports around Hampden Park

Hampden Park is within about 2 miles of the coast, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. In a coastal gale, rain is driven sideways into laps, verges and flashings, while salt slowly corrodes metal fixings and flashings. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.

Take a building like Heron Park Primary Academy: a leak through a large roof is often found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you live near a park such as Princes Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. Landlords with a home close to Hampden Park station may find that tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

Hampden Park is about 1 mile north-west of Eastbourne, in East Sussex. Whether the building in Hampden Park is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend. We cover towns and villages across East Sussex, large and small. We also survey roofs in Brighton.

We survey roofs across BN22, BN21 and BN23 for storm damage roof reports and the streets around it. Whether your property is on Port Road, Court Road and Brand Road or anywhere close by, we can help. You will find Hampden Park on the A22 and A2280, so it is easy for us to get to. If you are just outside Hampden Park, we cover Eastbourne (1 mile south-east), Ratton Village (1 mile west), Upperton (2 miles south), Old Town (2 miles south) and Jevington (3 miles west). Further out, we also cover Hastings (13 miles east), Bexhill-on-Sea (9 miles north-east), Seaford (8 miles west), Lewes (13 miles north-west), Hailsham (5 miles north) and St Leonards (13 miles east).

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Hampden Park

Does being near the coast affect roofs in Hampden Park?

Places near the sea get more wind and more salt in the air than inland, and both are hard on roofs. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces.

Do you cover smaller places like Hampden Park?

Yes. Hampden Park is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.

What do I do if water is coming in?

Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?

The decision is your insurer’s, not ours. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, which you can pass to your insurer.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.

The survey, step by step

Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Parking around Hampden Park is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.

  1. We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. The findings are written up with photos for you to share with your insurer.

How to prepare

When you need someone else

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • A price for the repairs

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
