Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Islington
Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there’s access, and the roof itself where that’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. If you are worried about gaps where slates or tiles have gone and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Water getting into a London home often comes from a detail you cannot see from the street: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. For a leak or storm damage in Islington, those hidden details are where the inspection begins. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Tips from our surveys
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
- Photograph damage inside the house too
- Check how your policy defines a storm
- Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
If you’re unhappy with how your insurer handles the claim, you can complain to them first. After that, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.
What happens if roof problems are left?
With an independent report, you have something specific to show your insurer. It records the damage and what seems to have caused it, alongside any photos you took yourself. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What you get with us
- Clear package prices, with VAT included
- Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
- Customer satisfaction of 98%
- CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID)

When to book a survey in Islington
When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. The decision still rests with the insurer.
Common reasons to book include:
- New damp or leaks inside
- Damaged pots on the stack
- Holes or cracks caused by debris
- Damaged ridges and hips
If you run a business near Brunswick Centre, water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast.
What to check before booking
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- When you’ll get the report
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- What experience they bring
Islington roofs and the weather
About 1.6 miles south lies Dr Johnson's House, a reminder of how long the area around Islington has been built on. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, frequently with Welsh slate roofs. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that can’t be seen from the pavement. If your home in Islington is one of them, lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are part of the picture too. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
Trees in and around Barnard Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. For landlords with property near Essex Road station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.

Questions from Islington
Do you cover Islington?
Yes, Islington is within the area we cover. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Islington?
It rarely stops a survey, but it’s worth planning. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
What if my insurer declines the claim?
Start by complaining to the insurer. If it is not resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Larger or more complex roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone.
Does someone need to be in?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We’ll talk about access when booking.
What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
- Acting for you with the insurer
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
How the survey works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging. The whole visit normally takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a London area like Islington, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
