Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Osterley
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photos, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We’re not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. We’re often asked to look into roofs hit by falling trees and damaged gutters and fascias, on flashings, ridges and hips and slate and tile slopes.
In converted houses and blocks across London, water from a roof can run a long way before it shows on a ceiling. That makes the source hard to pin down, and finding it matters for whoever has to deal with it. In Osterley, we inspect what we can reach safely and are given access to. Tell us when the water shows, and in what kind of weather.
After the visit, you get a report with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What a survey costs
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The roof’s overall size
- House, block, shop or office
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Every price we give includes VAT. Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
Helping us price your survey
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- Dates you are working to, like exchange
- The property’s address and postcode
- The kind of building and roof involved
- What’s prompted the survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.
What you can safely check yourself
It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
Why get it checked now?
Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. Our report can then add a clear record. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is often older than it looks.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

What a storm damage roof report does not cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Repair costs or quotes for the work
- A decision on your insurance claim
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Wind, rain and roofs in Osterley
Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. About 0.3 miles north lies Osterley House, a reminder of how long the area around Osterley has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.
For an older house near a landmark like St Mary's Church, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. Anyone responsible for a site like Isleworth and Syon School for Boys will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. Trees in and around Inwood Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

Osterley: your questions answered
Is parking a problem for a survey in Osterley?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when you book.
How do I find out if my home in Osterley is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when booking.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Please do not climb onto the roof. Take photos from ground level or from windows. Record the date and any damage inside as well.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We are not loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to.
What we do, step by step
We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes an hour or two at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. In Osterley, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when you book.
- You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
How to prepare
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Tell us about parking before the day
