Storm damage roof report in Woodlands, Greater London
Storm damage roof reports in Woodlands from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Gutters pulled loose in the wind
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
How a storm damage roof report works in Woodlands
Most policies do not cover wear and tear. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. Our report records both: recent damage alongside any older defects, like nail fatigue on slates or eroded pointing. We give an honest view of what we see. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. Typical surveys look at new damp or leaks inside and gutters pulled loose in the wind, across flashings, flat roofs and slate and tile slopes.
In a London flat, water can travel some way before it shows. That makes the source hard to pin down, and finding it matters for whoever has to deal with it. In Woodlands, we inspect what we can reach safely and are given access to. Let us know when the water shows, and in what kind of weather.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

How the survey works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes about one to two hours at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. In Woodlands, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it’s useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photographs.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Woodlands
Flat roofs can be damaged too. Wind can lift edges and tear coverings, and blocked outlets can leave water ponding after heavy rain. We record what we find on flat and pitched roofs alike.
Look out for signs like these:
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
- Water coming in after the storm
- Roofs hit by falling trees
Living close to Inwood Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.
What to check before booking
- What happens after the report arrives
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Their track record with similar roofs
What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.
Common questions in Woodlands
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Woodlands?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Woodlands?
Parking in Woodlands, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when booking.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.
How many surveys have you done?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. We are not loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
What we cannot see
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- A price for the repairs
- A decision on your insurance claim
- How your policy defines a storm
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Tips that help
Getting the most from a storm damage roof report starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Don’t go onto the roof to take pictures
- Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
- Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
If anything in the report isn’t clear, just ask us. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.
Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.
Woodlands roofs and the weather
Historic houses such as Syon House, about 1.4 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Woodlands goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
If you run a business near Treaty Centre, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Why act early in Woodlands
Damage left open lets in more rain. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. Emergency temporary protection should be arranged with a roofer. In Woodlands, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we can help you choose.
