Drone roof survey in Osterley
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from ground level. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we’ll say so. Common reasons to book are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and hidden gutters full of leaves, on flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at, in Osterley as anywhere. Let us know about the building and access when you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Osterley moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare

Questions from Osterley
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Osterley?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Osterley?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Osterley is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect what can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
What’s in the report?
A report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. Our report shows the condition of each area. That helps you put the work in order. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork, which can lead to damp inside. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.
To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.

Flying and imaging in Osterley
Osterley is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Take a building like Isleworth and Syon School for Boys: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Historic houses such as Osterley House, about 0.3 miles north, show how far back building around Osterley goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Treaty Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.

How we price drone roof surveys
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- Anything about access we should know
- Your timetable, like an exchange date
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
For a price for drone roof surveys in Osterley, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. The address, the type of property and what you want to find out help us give you an accurate price.
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Tips that help
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Let us know what you want to see
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem, so their quotes cover the same ground.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
