Independent drone roof surveys in Heston

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Heston

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are loose ridge and hip tiles and eroded pointing on a chimney stack.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Heston is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Airspace, weather and Heston roofs

The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Heston. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

If you look after a building such as Westbrook Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. With Osterley House about 1.2 miles east, the area around Heston has a long history. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Treaty Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

How the survey works

We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. From the street, a London terrace usually shows only its front slope or parapet, so a visit in Heston moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, tell us who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What to tell us when you contact us

What helps most when you contact us:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.

Before and after the survey

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

FAQs for Heston

Is drone flying allowed in Heston?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Heston. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Heston?

Parking in Heston, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot, so mention what’s available as you book.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed.

What does the report include?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. Points are put by urgency where it matters.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
