Drone roof survey in Woodlands
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. Typical surveys look at standing water on a flat roof and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, across tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Woodlands as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Woodlands
Woodlands is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. The wider area around Woodlands has a long history of building, with Syon House about 1.4 miles east. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
For businesses in and around places such as Treaty Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most. For hotels and guest houses around Woodlands, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Woodlands, along with any off-street space.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.

FAQs for Woodlands
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Woodlands?
It can be, so it helps to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Woodlands?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Woodlands. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.
Does the report include photographs?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Do you work in Woodlands?
Yes, we do. Woodlands is part of the area we cover.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or email us.
How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey typically takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when you book.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent

How the survey changes by roof type
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.
Large commercial roofs
Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Make sure the loft can be reached
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
