Storm damage roof report in Southfields
We inspect the roof from wherever it can be seen safely: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there is access, and the roof itself where that is safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. If part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. Typical surveys look at gutters pulled loose in the wind and new damp or leaks inside, across flat roofs, chimney stacks and flashings.
Many London homes are well over a century old and their roofs have been patched more than once. Telling wear from a one-off event matters, because insurers usually exclude wear and tear. That is as true in Southfields as anywhere in London. Photos and a written account give you something specific to show an insurer, a landlord or a roofer.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
- Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
- Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
- File receipts for anything you pay for
If you’re unhappy with how your insurer handles the claim, you can complain to them first. After that, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Store invoices and reports for any roof work. They can help show the roof was looked after.
What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is frequently on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Preparing for the visit
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice
Why it is worth a survey now in Southfields
The sooner the damage is recorded, the clearer the evidence. Later weather and temporary repairs can make it harder to see what happened. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both inc. VAT. You will know the exact price before booking.

Southfields: your questions answered
Is my home in Southfields listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Southfields?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
What if the roof was already worn?
Wear and tear is not usually covered. We describe what looks like fresh storm damage and what looks older. Your insurer decides the claim.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Southfields?
The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Only from ground level or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from ground level, and we’ll record the rest.
What a storm damage roof report does not cover
We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Your insurer’s view of the claim

- Negotiating a claim settlement

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Southfields
Fulham Palace, about 1.9 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Southfields. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Inner London’s Victorian and Edwardian terraces often have Welsh slate roofs. Many have butterfly roofs draining to a central valley gutter, with parapet walls and gutters hidden behind them. Lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are typical of these houses, if yours is one of them. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.
Take a building like Floreat Wandsworth Primary School: a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you live in an older home near St John the Divine, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney. Landlords with a home close to Earlsfield station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

Southfields has its own railway station: Earlsfield station. Well-known places in the area include Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (1 mile west) and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum (1.2 miles south-west). Not far away are Henman Hill and Wandle Meadow Nature Park.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
