Tips from our surveys

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly

Once we’ve been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

Check the roof from ground level after strong winds. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Do not go up a ladder to look.

About our storm damage roof report in Waterend

High winds usually affect the parts of a roof that are already exposed or loose. Slates and tiles slip or blow off, ridge and hip tiles lift, flashings pull away and flat roof coverings can tear. Falling branches can cause damage too. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Any older wear we can see is recorded as well. We survey flashings, flat roofs and ridges and hips, and the problems we are asked to look at most are gutters pulled loose in the wind and loose or torn flashings.

Somewhere as small as Waterend, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it is worth finding the cause soon.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What we look for on each type of roof

Lead flashings

Lifted flashings let rain run behind them into the roof. The report records the flashing and any damp inside.

Flat roof coverings

Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. Damage is photographed and described.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It records the damage and what seems to have caused it, alongside any photos you took yourself. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Why us?

  • More than 20 years surveying roofs
  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help
  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Package prices that include VAT

What we do, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a report with photographs, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as Waterend, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

Common roof problems in Waterend

Others book after an insurer has queried a claim. You get an independent record of what the roof shows. We cannot say whether the decision will change.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
  • Stains appearing after strong winds
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof

If you look after a building such as Radnage Church of England Primary School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • Will the report include photos?
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • How soon the report will arrive

Wind, rain and roofs in Waterend

The wider area around Waterend has a long history of building, with West Wycombe Park House about 3.1 miles east. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.

The streets around a church like Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself. If you own a rental within reach of Saunderton station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away.

Waterend questions

How do I find out if my home in Waterend is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover Waterend?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Waterend is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will explain what’s needed.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.

Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?

Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. If it is safe, take photos before it goes on. We can record the damage in our report.

Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?

That is not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. What we provide is an independent record of the damage.
