Thermal roof surveys in Adeyfield

Before and after the survey

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:

  • Leave the roof to people with safe access
  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Check outlets after heavy rain

Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.

Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Adeyfield

A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding cannot be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. We survey flat roofs, commercial roofs and loft conversions, and people most often book us about water that travels before it shows and wet insulation beneath the membrane.

Places like Adeyfield can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Roof by roof

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. We check those patches with moisture readings.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Inside the loft space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Adeyfield

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The size of the roof
  • Height and safe access
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Getting in touch

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to let us know:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. You will know the price before anything is booked.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs

FAQs for Adeyfield

Will you come out to Adeyfield?

Yes, Adeyfield is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Is Adeyfield in the area you cover?

Yes, Adeyfield is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we’ll recommend one.

Will I get photos?

Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.

DIY checks: what’s safe

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

What happens on the day

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Parking around Adeyfield is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where applicable.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
  4. Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

How to prepare

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent

Flying and imaging in Adeyfield

Adeyfield is part of Hemel Hempstead, one of the post-war new towns. Homes from the post-war decades are common in the new towns, many with low-pitched roofs in concrete tiles and flat-roofed garages or porches. Low-pitched roofs can be hard to see from the street, which is where a drone or thermal camera helps. With Batchwood Hall about 4.2 miles east, Adeyfield sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

The streets around a church such as St Barnabas are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building like Hobletts Manor Infants' School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
