Questions from Artington
Is Artington in the area you cover?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Artington is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
How do I find out if my home in Artington is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
What conditions are best for thermal imaging?
Conditions on the day affect the results. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Artington
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We are often asked to look into water getting in at parapets and stacks and damp around roof outlets and upstands, across commercial roofs, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces.
In a village or hamlet like Artington, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Leave it or get it looked at?
A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. For older village homes like those around Artington, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Tips from our surveys
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- File the images with your roof records
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
Thermal roof surveys in Artington: local notes
In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Artington. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.
A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Artington means lost rooms as well as repairs. If you look after a building like Shalford Infant School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Artington
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs.
What a survey costs
To price your survey, we check:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Which survey package you book
- The size of the roof
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details. We will confirm the figure before booking.
Getting in touch
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
When you’re ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
What happens on the day
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about one to two hours at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Artington often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
