Thermal roof surveys near Ash Green

Thermal roof survey in Ash Green: what you get

Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. If you’ve noticed patches of heat loss across the roof and water getting in at parapets and stacks, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a small place like Ash Green, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Thermal roof surveys in Ash Green: local notes

Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Wanborough Manor lies about 2.1 miles east, so building around Ash Green goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. The streets around a church like Church of St Peter are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Take a building like Ash Grange Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What happens on the day

You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Ash Green can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces

FAQs for Ash Green

Is Ash Green in the area you cover?

Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Ash Green is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details.

Is my home in Ash Green listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

What conditions are best for thermal imaging?

Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

What’s the best way to book?

Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Can a thermal camera see water?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, and moisture readings are used to check it.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

For landlords and managing agents

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.

Roof by roof

Parapets, valleys and junctions

When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. Moisture readings are used to check them.
