Thermal roof survey in Astwick

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are leaks that are hard to trace and damp that repairs haven’t cured.

Somewhere as small as Astwick, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Astwick

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Getting in touch

Getting the details right at the start saves time. It’s useful to include:

  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Anything about access we should know
  • The address and postcode of the property

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • A formal energy assessment

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions

What we do, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Astwick can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Repeated repairs that do not stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, instead of trying repair after repair. In a small place like Astwick, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

What you get with us

  • Plain-English reports with photos
  • Independent findings on the roof’s condition
  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help
  • More than 20 years surveying roofs

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Astwick

Hinxworth Place, about 1.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Astwick. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of Saint Guthlac, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Mary's CofE Academy Stotfold, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Astwick is about 1 mile north of Stotfold, in Hertfordshire. Astwick is part of the area we cover across London and South East England. Across Hertfordshire, we cover Astwick and the places around it. You can also see our page for Milton Keynes.

We cover every part of the SG5 postcode area for thermal roof surveys and the streets around it. How the survey changes by roof type

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Thermal images of a pitched roof can still show heat loss patterns and some damp areas. The report explains what the images can tell you and what they can’t.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.

FAQs for Astwick

Is Astwick within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in Astwick is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.

What does a thermal roof survey show?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us as you book.

Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?

Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

Thermal imaging shows temperature rather than water. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
