Thermal roof surveys around Broad Tenterden
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St Mildred are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Historic houses such as Smallhythe Place, about 1.6 miles south, show how far back building around Broad Tenterden goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. Anyone responsible for a site like Tenterden Church of England Junior School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Broad Tenterden
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. You also get a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey flat roofs, loft conversions and commercial roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are stains that keep coming back and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering.
Somewhere as small as Broad Tenterden, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
After the visit, you get a report with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
How the survey changes by roof type
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Loft insulation
Insulation often gets moved during work in the loft. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.
Surveys for landlords and agents in Broad Tenterden
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed beforehand. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.

Booking your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
Booking is simple: just call 07833 053749 or email us, tell us about the property and we’ll recommend the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
How the survey works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Broad Tenterden can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit

Advice
Questions from Broad Tenterden
Do you cover Broad Tenterden?
Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Broad Tenterden is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details.
How do I find out if my home in Broad Tenterden is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details when you book.
What happens next?
You will get the report by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
How long will you be at the property?
It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. We’ll confirm the timing when booking.
