Thermal imaging roof survey in Strood, Kent
Thermal roof surveys in Strood and the rest of Kent. Surveys run seven days a week.
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs.
How a thermal roof survey works in Strood
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. There’s an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. Common reasons to book are cold areas below the roof and missing or slipped insulation, on loft conversions, ceilings below the roof and pitched roof slopes.
Older buildings in small places like Strood may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The size of the roof
- Height and safe access
- The shape of the roof and its details
All our prices include VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
Booking your survey
We will usually ask about:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- What made you get in touch
- The address and postcode of the property
To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. You will know the price before anything is booked.
Honest limits
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Strood
Will you come out to Strood?
Yes. Strood is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Is my home in Strood listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Does the weather affect a thermal survey?
The weather makes a real difference. It works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind. Rain, wind and heavy cloud can weaken the patterns, so we talk through the forecast when booking.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
How do I book a survey in Strood?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
What we do, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report. On timing, most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. For a village or hamlet like Strood, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Thermal roof surveys around Strood
Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. About 2.6 miles south-east lies Smallhythe Place, a reminder of how long the area around Strood has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Mary: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

When to book a survey in Strood
Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, especially when it is warm inside and cold outside.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
Take a building like Rolvenden Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
