Thermal roof surveys for Clapham Park homes and businesses

What a survey costs

All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • What made you get in touch
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

Once you know what you need, call 07833 053749 or email us. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date, weekday or weekend.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Clapham Park

Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging frequently helps most. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. We survey flat roofs, commercial roofs and loft conversions, and common reasons people get in touch are moisture around outlets and upstands and patches of heat loss across the roof.

In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at. Tell us about the building and access as you book. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

FAQs for Clapham Park

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Clapham Park?

Normally it is manageable with a little notice. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

Is drone flying allowed in Clapham Park?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Clapham Park is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. Before any flight there, we ask the heliport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

For landlords and managing agents

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.

What we look for on each type of roof

Loft insulation

In the loft space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there is safe access.

Pitched slate and tile roofs

From inside the loft, the camera can help with damp around chimneys, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Drones, thermal imaging and Clapham Park roofs

Inner London’s Victorian and Edwardian terraces often have Welsh slate roofs. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. In a house like that, shared stacks, party-wall upstands and lead flashings all need looking at as far as they can be seen. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. About 2.6 miles north-west lies Carlyle's House, a reminder of how long the area around Clapham Park has been built on. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

For businesses in and around places like Southside Wandsworth, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Spirit, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Clapham Park.

Leave it or get it looked at?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: a blocked parapet gutter or slipped slate can let water into the flat below or the house next door. Finding it early keeps the work smaller.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

When you need someone else

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
