Thermal roof surveys near Hyde farm estate

What we do, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. All told, expect an hour or two at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Hyde farm estate moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, tell us who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Thermal roof survey in Hyde farm estate: what you get

Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. It is important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. If you are worried about patches of heat loss across the roof and water that travels before it shows, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on ceilings below the roof, loft conversions and flat roofs alike.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Hyde farm estate is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Drones, thermal imaging and Hyde farm estate roofs

Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that cannot be seen from the pavement. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. About 2.6 miles east lies Kingswood House, a reminder of how long the area around Hyde farm estate has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

For a London address like Hyde farm estate, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Telferscot Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Southside Wandsworth, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it.

Tips from our surveys

Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:

  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
  • Do not climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
  • Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting

If you’re buying, the report gives you specific points to raise with the seller or agent. It is your decision how to use it, whether you ask for work before completion or discuss the price.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Before replacing a large flat roof, it helps to know how much of it is actually wet. Thermal imaging, checked with moisture readings, gives a clearer picture before you commit. Any roof job in Hyde farm estate means planning around parking, neighbours and access. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

Different roofs, different checks

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.

What this survey cannot tell you

Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Questions from Hyde farm estate

Are there drone restrictions around Hyde farm estate?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 1 mile of Hyde farm estate. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.

How do I find out if my home in Hyde farm estate is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.

Can a thermal camera see water?

No, not on its own. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
