Thermal imaging roof survey in Cowley, Oxfordshire
Thermal roof surveys across Cowley, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. Every survey ends with a written report and photos.
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
What happens if roof problems are left?
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. Around Cowley, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, especially where trees overhang. It’s easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

Thermal roof survey in Cowley
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We survey insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and commercial roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are stains that keep coming back and areas of a flat roof that may hold water.
Around Cowley, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

What this survey cannot tell you
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before you book. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Loft conversions
Practical tips
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Keep a record of when stains appear
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.
How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. A visit to a smaller place like Cowley is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
Booking a survey

Cowley questions
Will you come out to Cowley?
Yes. Cowley is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Is my home in Cowley listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
How the survey changes by roof type
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Thermal images of a pitched roof can still show heat loss patterns and some damp areas. The report explains what the images can tell you and what they can’t.
