East Hill Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof in East Hill, using drones and thermal imaging where it applies. Get in touch for a price.
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
If you’re buying, the report gives you specific points to raise with the seller or agent. What you do with it is up to you, whether that is asking for work or discussing the price.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
How a thermal roof survey works in East Hill
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photographs, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We are often asked to look into missing or slipped insulation and damp patches with no obvious cause, across flat roofs, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces.
In a small place like East Hill, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What a thermal roof survey looks like in East Hill
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
With Lullingstone Castle about 2.2 miles north-west, the area around East Hill has a long history. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. The streets around a church like Church of Saint Mary the Virgin are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
East Hill is about 5 miles north-east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. We visit East Hill as part of our work across Kent, for homes and businesses alike. Our area takes in places right across Kent. You can also see our page for Maidstone.
We cover every part of TN15 for thermal roof surveys. Streets in the area include Cherry Tree Grove, Ashen Grove Road and East Hill Road, and we cover them all. We also cover Knatts Valley (1 mile south-east), Romney Street (1 mile south-west), West Kingsdown (1 mile north-east), Maplescombe (1 mile north) and Woodlands (1 mile south). What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Booking your survey
The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. The price is agreed before a date is set.
What you can safely check yourself
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What we look for on each type of roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Many single-ply and EPDM roofs sit on insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.
Your questions about thermal roof surveys in East Hill
Is East Hill within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Is my home in East Hill listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It often helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It’s used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll suggest the right survey. Surveys run seven days a week.
The survey, step by step
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Cottages and farmhouses around East Hill frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Let us know about parking near the property

What this survey cannot tell you
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A formal energy assessment
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
