Thermal roof survey in Eythorne
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. It works best when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. We are often asked to look into damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and wet insulation beneath the membrane, across ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs.
Somewhere as small as Eythorne, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Height and safe access
- House, block, shop or office
- The size of the roof
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What we need to know
You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- What made you get in touch
Getting a price is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email, tell us about the property and we will suggest the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
How it works
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where applicable. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Rural addresses near Eythorne can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We check the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

What you can safely check yourself
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.
What we look for on each type of roof
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there’s safe access.
Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
Where a pattern cannot be confirmed, the report says what could help, for instance electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
Thermal roof surveys in Eythorne: local notes
Many older homes in Kent have handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles held by pegs through two holes, and tile-hanging on their upper walls. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Anyone responsible for a site like Eythorne Elvington Community Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Historic houses such as Goodnestone Park, about 3.6 miles north-west, show how far back building around Eythorne goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Eythorne
Is my home in Eythorne listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Eythorne?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Eythorne is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
How quickly is the report sent?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
What happens after the survey?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
The results depend on the weather. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.
