Can I check my roof myself?

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in.

Thermal roof survey in Halfway Street

A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. The report is clear about what the images show and what they don’t. Where something can’t be confirmed, we say what would help next. If you are worried about wet areas near outlets and upstands and leaks that are hard to trace, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Halfway Street, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Thermal roof surveys around Halfway Street

Goodnestone Park, about 4.3 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Halfway Street. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

What we need to know

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Questions from Halfway Street

How do I find out if my home in Halfway Street is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is Halfway Street in the area you cover?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Halfway Street as anywhere else.

Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?

Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access as you book.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. We look from the loft as well, where there is safe access.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Halfway Street?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:

  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • A formal energy assessment
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs

The survey, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. For a village or hamlet like Halfway Street, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Before the survey

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building

How to book

If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.
