Thermal roof survey in Forest Corner

Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey pitched roof slopes, commercial roofs and loft conversions, and people most often book us about water getting in at parapets and stacks and areas of a flat roof that may hold water.

Older buildings in small places like Forest Corner may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Why act early in Forest Corner

A poorly insulated roof loses heat year after year. Thermal images can show where insulation is missing or has slipped, so you know where to put things right. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Why book with us

  • Photos and a written report every time
  • A sub-250g drone, flown with a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • PI and public liability insurance

Drones, thermal imaging and Forest Corner roofs

If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

For an older house near a landmark such as St John the Baptist, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Avon Tyrrell House lies about 3.6 miles south, so building around Forest Corner goes back a long way. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Forest Corner is about 1 mile east of Ringwood, in Hampshire. From houses to flats and shops in Forest Corner, the roof can be surveyed. We cover towns and villages across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. We also survey roofs in Southampton.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere as small as Forest Corner, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We check the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Let us know about parking before the day

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Forest Corner

People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Ceilings that feel colder in places
  • Stains that keep coming back
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands

Take a building like Poulner Infant School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Their insurance cover
  • Will the report include photos?

What a good roof survey covers

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Forest Corner

How do I find out if my home in Forest Corner is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Is Forest Corner within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What’s the best way to book?

Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Where it is applicable and safe, yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

How long will you be at the property?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. The written report follows by email.

What do I do with the report?

You receive the written report by email, with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

How experienced are you?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Landlords and letting agents in Forest Corner book surveys as well as homeowners. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it as you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

What we cannot see

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • A formal energy assessment
  • Confirming water without moisture readings
