Hightown Thermal Roof Survey

Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out thermal roof surveys in Hightown and across Hampshire.

  • Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
  • Water getting in at parapets and stacks
  • Gaps in loft insulation

Thermal roof surveys for Hightown homes and businesses

How the survey changes by roof type

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Inside the roof space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.

About our thermal roof survey in Hightown

A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings don’t rely on the camera alone. If you are worried about damp around chimneys and parapets and patches of heat loss across the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.

Somewhere as small as Hightown, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Hightown

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Roof area
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT.

Helping us price your survey

There’s no need for technical words. Just let us know:

  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • What made you get in touch
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know where you stand. Prices start from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

What this survey can’t tell you

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • Confirming water without moisture readings

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Flat roofs

How it works

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a hamlet or village like Hightown, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Preparing for the visit

  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
  • Check pets are kept safely away

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Hightown

Do you cover smaller places like Hightown?

Yes, Hightown is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hightown?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

What does a thermal roof survey show?

The camera records how the surface temperature varies. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.

Flying and imaging in Hightown

If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Avon Tyrrell House lies about 3 miles south, so building around Hightown goes back a long way. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take an older house close to St John the Baptist: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Ringwood Junior School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Can I check my roof myself?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

For landlords and managing agents

Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. Surveys run seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
