Thermal roof surveys in Harbridge

Thermal roof survey in Harbridge

Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. It’s important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so we check what it shows with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. Typical surveys look at thin or uneven insulation in the roof and stains that keep coming back, on insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Harbridge may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Different roofs, different checks

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

On felt and asphalt flat roofs, wet insulation can show as a temperature difference across the surface. We check those patches with moisture readings.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Junctions where roofs meet walls, parapets and valleys are common places for water to get in. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.

Why act early in Harbridge

Wet insulation under a flat roof doesn’t dry out on its own while the covering stays on. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding them early can mean a smaller job. Older cottages and farmhouses around Harbridge can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What a thermal roof survey does not cover

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs

How the survey works

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older rural homes like those around Harbridge can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Find any records of previous roof work

What a thermal roof survey looks like in Harbridge

If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Take an older house close to Church of All Saints: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Common questions in Harbridge

How do I find out if my home in Harbridge is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.

Do you take photos of the roof?

Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

How do I book a survey in Harbridge?

How many surveys have you done?

What does the report include?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Photograph damp patches with the date

You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Because the images are paired with photos, it’s easy to find each area on the roof.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.

What we are asked to look at in Harbridge

Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Gaps in loft insulation
  • Stains that keep coming back
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof

For any home in Harbridge, it is the small, early fault that is cheapest to put right.
