Thermal imaging roof survey in Heath End, Surrey
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out thermal roof surveys in Heath End and across Surrey.
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Stains that keep coming back
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
What a survey costs
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
There’s no need for technical words. Just let us know:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
How a thermal roof survey works in Heath End
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. It works best when the building is heated and it is colder outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. We survey ceilings below the roof, loft conversions and flat roofs, and people most often book us about gaps in loft insulation and wet insulation beneath the membrane.
In a village or hamlet like Heath End, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Heath End
Do you cover smaller places like Heath End?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Heath End is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Are you structural engineers?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take an hour or two at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Common roof problems in Heath End
Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. The Premium Survey brings thermal imaging and a drone inspection where it applies, with a report the same day, which suits a purchase that is moving quickly.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Stains that keep coming back
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Hart Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.
Before booking any roof surveyor

- Whether VAT is added on top
- What insurance they carry
- What the survey will not cover
What we do, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older rural homes like those around Heath End can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Advice
DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Heath End
About 1.4 miles south-west lies Farnham Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Heath End has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Farnborough Airport is about 3 miles from Heath End. If the drone is used for your survey, the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions first.
The streets around a church like St Mark the Evangelist Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Take a building like Farnham Heath End School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Tips that help
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:
- Check the loft can be reached safely
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
If the images suggest moisture that cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.

What else we do in Heath End
Leave it or get it looked at?
Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. Outbuildings and barns around Heath End are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.
