Questions from Hersham

Do you cover Hersham?

Yes, Hersham is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

How do I find out if my home in Hersham is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, like electronic leak detection.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

It is part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.

What do I do with the report?

You’ll get the report by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hersham

A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp is not obvious. Water can travel some distance under a roof covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. We survey commercial roofs, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces, and people most often book us about possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and missing or slipped insulation.

Around Hersham, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.

The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What we do, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It usually takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Homes around Hersham frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

How to prepare

  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Advice

Drones, thermal imaging and Hersham roofs

Historic houses such as The Homewood, about 1.4 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Hersham goes. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Take an older house close to Church of St Peter: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Hersham

Before replacing a large flat roof, it helps to know how much of it is actually wet. Thermal imaging, checked with moisture readings, gives a clearer picture before you spend. Around Hersham, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.

What we can’t see

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

How the survey changes by roof type

Loft insulation

In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there’s safe access.

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Hersham?

People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. A leak may start well away from where the stain appears. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
  • Cold areas below the roof

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bell Farm Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What a good roof survey covers

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Hersham

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • Height and safe access
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What to tell us when you get in touch

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email to find out.
