Little Chelsea Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof around Little Chelsea, with a written report you can act on. Book a weekday or weekend visit.
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Cold areas below the roof
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
Thermal roof survey in Little Chelsea
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We will discuss the weather with you when booking, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. We survey loft conversions, commercial roofs and ceilings below the roof, and common reasons people get in touch are damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and gaps in loft insulation.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every address in Little Chelsea is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

How it works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Surveys in Little Chelsea can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
How to prepare
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below frequently show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.
What a survey costs
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- House, block, shop or office
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
What we need to know
What helps most when you contact us:
- What made you get in touch
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you are ready.
Thermal roof surveys in Little Chelsea: local notes
Little Chelsea is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. If the drone is used for your survey, we ask the heliport for permission first, and only fly if it’s given. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Little Chelsea, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Little Chelsea, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. Take an older house close to Church of St Andrew: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Shop and office owners around Harrods may find that large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.

FAQs for Little Chelsea
Is my home in Little Chelsea listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Little Chelsea?
Sometimes, yes. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
What’s in the survey report?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.
Is Little Chelsea in your area?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Little Chelsea.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
What a thermal roof survey does not cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- The condition of timbers we can’t see
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
Why act early in Little Chelsea
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. In Little Chelsea, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
