Thermal roof surveys near West Brompton

How a thermal roof survey works in West Brompton

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs, and people most frequently book us about heat escaping through the roof and stains that keep coming back.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible.

Questions from West Brompton

Is parking a problem for a survey in West Brompton?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot, so mention what’s available when you book.

Is drone flying allowed in West Brompton?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea covers West Brompton, or comes right up to its edge. We ask the heliport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it is given. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, and the rest of the survey doesn’t depend on the drone.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in West Brompton?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

How experienced are you?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Can a thermal camera see water?

The camera doesn’t see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. We explain what the images can and can’t tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Honest limits

It helps to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Landlord and commercial surveys in West Brompton

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

What you can safely check yourself

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

How we price thermal roof surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The size of the roof
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

What to tell us when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

The survey, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. In a London area like West Brompton, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at what can be seen safely from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

How to prepare

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Booking a survey

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

Advice

Drones, thermal imaging and West Brompton roofs

Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. In a house like that, shared stacks, party-wall upstands and lead flashings all need looking at as far as they can be seen. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Within a mile and a half or so of West Brompton there are several hotels, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

West Brompton is in London, so parking needs planning: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. Anyone responsible for a site like St Cuthbert with St Matthias CofE Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you live in an older home near Church of St Luke, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Buyers get extra information from thermal images that the eye can miss. Finding hidden moisture before exchange gives you facts to raise with the seller. In West Brompton, as in much of London, water from a roof defect can reach a neighbour’s home as easily as yours: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. You will know the price for your survey before booking.
