Thermal imaging roof survey in Marsh Green, Kent
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof across Marsh Green, using drones and thermal imaging where applicable. Call or email for a price.
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
Thermal roof survey in Marsh Green: what you get
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. We survey loft conversions, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof, and the problems we are asked to look at most are missing or slipped insulation and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering.
Older buildings in small places like Marsh Green may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Marsh Green
Do you carry out roof surveys in Marsh Green?
Yes, Marsh Green is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Marsh Green as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
How do I find out if my home in Marsh Green is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where it is applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
Does the weather affect a thermal survey?
The results depend on the weather. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
How the survey works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Older rural homes like those around Marsh Green can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
How to book
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Drones, thermal imaging and Marsh Green roofs
Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. About 2.6 miles east lies Hever Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Marsh Green has been built on. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface

When to book a survey in Marsh Green
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Cold areas below the roof
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
Take an older house close to Marsh Green Mission Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- How soon the report will arrive
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Whether the inside of the roof is included

Useful tips for Marsh Green property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
Once we have been, the thermal images, photos and readings go into a single report. Each image is explained in plain words, alongside what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We look where there’s safe access.
