Thermal roof survey in Norwood Green: what you get
A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. The report is clear about what the images show and what they do not. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. We survey commercial roofs, ceilings below the roof and loft conversions, and people most frequently book us about water getting in at parapets and stacks and wet insulation beneath the membrane.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Norwood Green as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What happens on the day
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photos. On timing, most surveys take about 1–2 hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents as you book.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

What this survey cannot tell you
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- An energy rating for the building
- Proving moisture from the images alone
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Commercial roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
- Loft conversions
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Before replacing a large flat roof, it’s useful to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
Prices start from £150, with VAT included, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before you book.

FAQs for Norwood Green
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Norwood Green?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 1 mile of Norwood Green. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, and the rest of the survey doesn’t depend on the drone.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Norwood Green?
Normally it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.
How do I book a survey in Norwood Green?
Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
Does the weather affect a thermal survey?
Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
It records surface temperature across the roof. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.
How long is the visit?
Most surveys take an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. We will confirm the timing when booking.
Practical tips
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- File the images with your roof records
Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Because the images are paired with photos, it is easy to find each area on the roof.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
